Tips on What to Bring to Your Adventurous Engagement Session

Living in the Adirondacks + being an adventurous wedding photographer, I’ve now done quite a bit of hiking with my clients who share the similar love for being outdoors.  So I thought I’d share a little packing list for what to bring for your adventurous engagement session!

    – A COMFORTABLE HIKING BACKPACK –

This is so important because you don’t want your back to hurt for the whole hike. Mike + I have 2 Osprey bags that we love for hiking (+ traveling)! We have a small one I bring when I hike with my camera gear + a large one we sometimes bring when it’s a longer hike / we have more things to bring with us.

    – CAMEL BACK or WATER PACK –

[ to go in your backpack ]

This isn’t a necessity since you could always bring water bottles. However, it’s so nice to be able to easily stay hydrated without having to constantly stop to get out a water bottle from your bag. You can just sip + hike!

    – SNACKS –

[ fruit, granola, other healthy yumminess]

Because they are always a good idea, let’s be honest haha. This is something people often forget on hikes. Snacks are so important to keep you energized + alert (especially on long hikes)! They are also a great reward for when you get to the summit.

    – HEADLAMPS –

    [ with extra batteries ]

You’ll need headlamps when you hike for your engagement session because most likely we will be shooting around sunset when we are at the summit. That means we’ll be hiking back down as it gets dark. Sunset is the prettiest / dreamiest lighting so it’ll be so worth it I promise!

    – TWO CHANGES OF CLOTHES –

I recommend to all my clients to bring 2 changes of clothes for their engagement session no matter where it is. You can bring one casual outfit + one dressier outfit for variety!

    – MAKEUP + A SMALL MIRROR –

This one’s for the girls. You’ll most likely get all sweaty when we hike. So it’s a good idea to bring some makeup essentials + a small mirror in order to do some touchups before the photos!

    – RAIN JACKETS –

You never know if the weather will change when we are hiking. It’s a good idea to bring some rain jackets to be prepared for the worst.

    – GOOD HIKING BOOTS –

Well this is a no-brainer haha. Make sure you have comfortable + durable hiking boots! There will most likely be mud we have to go through + rocks we have to climb up.
