5 Ways to Support Your Wedding Photographer During COVID-19

I didn’t realize how much I would miss my job when all this craziness started happening. I miss meeting new couples, adventuring with them in nature + capturing their love stories on camera. I miss being alongside my couples on their big day, supporting them + capturing every moment that makes their wedding so unique + beautiful. So today I thought I’d share some 5 ways you can help out wedding photographers that you’ve worked with in the past or are planning to work with in the future!

    POSTPONE … DON’T CANCEL

If your wedding is being affected by COVID-19, please postpone + don’t cancel. Canceling on your photographer means that they will loose the income from your wedding. Although they will most likely get to keep the retainer (depending on your contract) you gave them when you booked, they will not be getting the rest of the money they originally planned on making. Also, they’ve probably come to really love you guys + are so excited to capture your big day! Be sure to check with your photographer for days they are available before officially moving your wedding day. I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to get your new date scheduled in!

PURCHASE PRINTS OR AN ALBUM DIRECTLY FROM YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

Most people don’t realize that ordering prints or albums directly from your photographer, not only guarantees that they will be high quality, but also helps out your photographer (especially in this tough financial time right now). When you order prints directly through your online gallery they deliver your photos through, they also get a percentage of the money you pay for the prints. The same thing goes for album companies. Since all the high quality album companies only partner with professional photographers, the photographer also gets a percentage of the albums they make + sell to their clients. So pass on ordering the cheap prints / albums from Shutterfly + buy an amazing one from your photographer! You won’t regret it.

    WRITE A THOUGHTFUL REVIEW

Your kind words about how much you love your wedding, elopement or engagement photos can really encourage a photographer right now. It can also help future couples decide on booking them! So take just a few minutes from your day + write your photographer a nice review (then copy + paste it to a few different places for them – like Google, Facebook, The Knot or Wedding Wire). This will mean so much to your photographer + will for sure make their day!

    SHARE THEIR WORK

Do you have a few favorite photos from your wedding, elopement or engagement? Why not take the the time right now (especially when you have so much down time) to show off their work on social media! Be sure to tag your photographer in the posts so your friends + family know who took the photos + can easily reach out if they want to book a session or wedding with them.

REFER ALL YOUR ENGAGED FRIENDS TO THEM

Right now most photographer’s inboxes are crickets. Couples are scared to plan a wedding with so much uncertainty happening right now. However, now is the time for 2021 wedding couples to book their vendors! With a lot of early 2020 couples postponing their weddings, 2021 dates are going to fill up FAST. So now is the time to refer your engaged friends to your favorite photographer so they can lock in their wedding date! Their retainer is going to help out that photographer tremendously right now too.

I hope these 5 tips inspired + encourage you on how to help your wedding photographer in this crazy time!
